Fundamentals of Nosework
Nose / Scent work has become an increasingly popular sport. Not only will your dog love it, but you will too! Dogs love to use their natural abilities to sniff. Nosework is great for building confidence, and creating a stronger bond between you and your dog while providing mental and physical stimulation to burn off extra energy.
Our training methods have been proven to be highly successful as one of the country's top K-9 Scent Detection dog’s programs in narcotics, explosive, human remains, electronics and accelerant dogs. Our imprinting method is effective on virtually all dog breeds, as well as all types of canine personalities - including unfocused, highly driven, nervous, aggressive and/or insecure dogs. Our work has been proven throughout the country; canines that have been through our training have earned certificates and titles in Nose / Scent work, and so can you! If your canine was unsuccessful in another training program, we can help you and your canine succeed!
This 4-hour seminar will be led by instructor Joe Nick, Joe Nick K-9 LLC. Handlers will complete a Basic Fundamentals of Nose / Scent work certification in Scent Detection through Joe Nick K-9 Training. The first hour of the seminar is a PowerPoint presentation and lecture, the remaining time will be working hands-on with dogs through the process of odor imprinting. All students will get a certificate of completion as well as take-home materials. This seminar will be geared to new and beginner handlers to Nose/ Scent work, but also applicable for experienced handlers who want to brush up on their fundamental skills of imprinting.
The presentation will cover the following key concepts:
§ The fundamentals of imprinting your dog on target odor.
§ Basic concepts in searching for target odor.
§ How to handle and store odor.
§ How to make and place hides.
§ How to teach your dog the importance of odor obedience & acquisition to odor.
§ Allow your dog to search independently to develop problem solving skills.
§ You will also learn how to make the search for target odor fun and important to your dog.
Cost for the session is $120 per handler/dog for a working spot. Audit spots (without dog) are $75 per person. Please include t-shirt size during the payment process through PayPal link below.
Dogs must be able to be crated when not working; dogs can be crated in vehicle or an outdoor crating area we will set up. Handlers must bring their own crate. There will be no indoor crating space as we will be using the training facility for practical hands on training.
